NSW Fire Brigades Rugby Union Club

The NSW Fire Brigades Rugby Union Club continues the great tradition of firefighters playing amateur rugby in Australia and overseas.

The Rugby club was founded on 14th February 1928. They undertook a tour of South Australia and Victoria in 1936 with the blessing of the Sports Council. Deputy Chief Officer Richardson was a loyal supporter of the NSWFB Rugby Union club and travelled with the team as the Manager. The 1930’s were a golden era for the Rugby team:-

• Winning the rugby union mid-week competition in 1934, 1935, 1937 & 1938. They were runners up in 1936
• Toured Queensland in July 1935 for a week in which NSWFB won all 3 games played
• Successfully toured South Australia and Victoria in 19336
• Completed another tour of Queensland in 1937 maintaining an unbeaten record
• Played and defeated a Canberra Representative team in 1938 (When they played the Canberra team they were received in the Prime Ministers own room at Parliament House. They were the first football team to be afforded this honour.)
